Technology can help your recovery
Physis was the first clinic in the UK to use this valuable piece of technology. Described as a physiotherapist in your pocket, the ViMove and ViPerform are able to electronically quantify and monitor your movement behaviour in many different ways.
The unit has specific functions to measure:
- movement and muscle activity of the lower back, which has real value in the determination of lower back, pelvic girdle and hip pain problems. You might think you know how you move or sit, but this device will accurately quantify what you do. This can be correlated with when you experience pain to give a better picture of what behaviours are driving your pain disorder. This is extremely valuable in chronic conditions.
From the assessments performed, information is gained on side to side dominance (the graph on the left shows a left side bending dominance in sitting which the patient was completely unaware of) or whether you are holding a more slouched or upright position than you think (the graph on the right shows someone who thought they were holding an upright posture, but when assessed the position of the back was found to be more slumped than the patient thought – changing the position of the pelvis with the help of the ViMove helped reduce the low back pain).
Once a pattern for the production of pain is established, the machine can be set to alert the person when they adopt any undesirable positions. This helps to control the length of time someone is provoking their condition before the pain increases. This helps to further guide the person in how they need to change their movements, and it ultimately helps reduce their pain.
- Ground reaction force when running. This assessment can give insight into the ability of a patient to absorb their weight when running and is used to determine if they are symmetrically loading each leg. This analysis can help in determining if a person is ready to return to running.
