What is Tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow is a condition caused by a reaction in the tendons in the elbow. These tendons attach to the extensor carpi radialis brevis to the outer bony prominence (lateral epicondyle) of the elbow. Certain repetitive movements of the wrist can cause this condition. Tennis elbow can occur in anyone who strains the tendons of the forearm and is not limited to tennis players.
What are some of the symptoms?
Symptoms include, tenderness on the outside of the elbow. Morning stiffness of the elbow with persistent aching. Soreness of the forearm muscles. Sitting at your desk and experiencing aches and pains. Elbow pain is worse when grasping or holding an object.

Top tip 1#
Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylalgia comes from the tendons which work at the wrist/hand but originate from the elbow. Most commonly it is related to repeated gripping activities – not just tennis!
Top tip 2#
Overload is the likely cause – too much too soon. So the first principle in treating it is to modify the load (or maybe even rest).

Most of these problems resolve naturally in time. Unfortunately 6-18 months of time! But with physiotherapy we can help lessen the pain and improve your functional levels long before that.

The key component of a recovery plan is strengthening exercises, which are built up gradually.

There are no miracle cures but it can be helped by a wide range of treatment methods but exercise rehabilitation is fundamental and can help pain as well as function.
